Today you turned 3 months old. I've been meaning to write monthly about your growth and development, but I seemed to have been busy adapting to life with a baby. I'm not going to lie; those first few weeks were rough. Actually, besides recovering from the c-section, the first week or so was relatively easy. (It wasn't possible to italicize that word any more, or I would have.) You slept almost 'round the clock, your father was at home to take care of both of us, and we had relatives all over the place bringing us food and cleaning the house. Then reality set in. Daddy had to go back to working long hours, and I thought I would never be able to shower or brush my teeth again. But with each day it got a little easier, and things settled into the new normal. Plus nowadays they make all of these cool doodads to keep babies busy for a few minutes so mommies can eat lunch or go to the bathroom or browse target.com.
Over the past few weeks especially, you are quickly changing from a newborn to a little person. You smile all of the time, and have almost started laughing out loud. As of late you have been making these little grunting noises that I think are a prelude to actual giggles.
Your favorite game is called "You Stick Your Tongue Out, Now I'll Stick My Tongue Out, Now You Stick Your Tongue out..." See, how it works is...well, you get the idea.
You love being naked. Every time I place you on your changing table and take of your diaper you get excited and start to do what we have titled The Nakie Dance. This adorable little jig where you move your arms and kick your legs; reveling in the fact that you have no pants on! Yaaay! Then you pee all over the changing table. Sadly, I don't have a picture of this. Yet.
It is so amazing watching you grow. From a tiny 7lb. ball-of-baby to this little girl who recognizes faces, and holds toys, and makes noises that will some day turn into words. We are amazed at how much you've already changed. Every time I leave you with one of your many adoring fans, i.e.: grandparents, I swear you've grown at least 3 inches since I saw you last. I'm fully expecting to come home next time and Grandma will be there alone, and she'll say, "Lillie left. She got a text from her friend and they went to the mall."
You have officially stolen your daddy's heart. He is absolutely head over heels in love with you. You know how I know? He makes up songs about your farts. How do you think I knew he loved me? It's amazing how many words rhyme with "toot".
You are surrounded by so many people who love you. Most of all, your father and me. And we are going to do everything we know how to make sure that you know that every day of your life.
Love, Mama
